Bulleit Bourbon
As I was perusing the local market for additions to my home bar, I noticed Bulleit Bourbon cuddling up oh so close to the usual Maker’s Mark. The price point is great (slightly less expensive than MM), so I picked up a bottle. Man, am I happy to have found Bulleit. It’s spot on, my friend. Bulleit has become the staple bourbon for my favorite cocktail, the Mint Julep.
In comparison to other bourbon’s, Bulleit is high in rye content giving it a bold and spicy character while keeping a distinctively smooth, clean finish. Its characteristics stem from its unique blend of rye, corn and barley malt, along with special strains of yeast. There’s something about the slightly less vanilla flavor (than MM) that fits perfectly with muddled mint for the Mint Julep.
Don’t get me wrong now…I still have a special space at the home bar for Maker’s Mark. It’s just that currently I prefer to pair it with ginger soda or a basic cola. Cheers!
